QoS Labs supports reducing the digital divide

March 2, 2008

Participating in the Web industry since its inception, QoS Labs has always been concerned about digital inclusion and has participated in international efforts providing consulting services to federal Governments in countries like Brazil and Mexico to plan and develop strategies that reduce the digital divide gap.

QoS Labs believes that every person in Florida has the right to access the Internet. Through Spribo, QoS Labs' Semantic Social Web SaaS platform, the company is providing infrastructure and support to the Florida 2.0 Initiative (FL2i) to create a social network focused on broadband and digital divide. Alfredo Sanchez, CEO of QoS Labs, stated: "The company considers this effort to be part of its social responsibility. There are relevant initiatives in Florida focused on broadband and reputable organizations like the Collins CenterInternet Coast, Institute of Information Use Management and Policy and the Digital Divide Council trying to bridge the gap. There is broadband funding and the Broadband Technology Opportunity Program that form part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. But there is also a need to reach out to the unserved and underserved communities in Florida so that they can voice their ideas, participate via community leaders, expedite the process and make it transparent. There is no better resource than the Social Web to put all stakeholders in contact and foster economic development in those communities."

As part of its Semantic Social Web beta program, QoS Labs will provide the Spribo platform to support FL2i in launching a broadband web 2.0 site to pursue its digital divide objectives.
